Bespoke websites

Web design that starts with goals, not a template

We design and build websites made for your business: clear messages, a structure that moves people forward, and code that loads fast and works for everyone.

At a glance

  • Design and code made for the job
  • A CMS that suits your team
  • Speed, accessibility and SEO built in
  • Connected to the systems you use

Who is a bespoke website for?

A good fit if

  • your site needs to sell, take bookings or generate leads, not just exist
  • you've outgrown your current site or theme
  • the site needs to talk to other systems, such as accounting or booking
  • you want the site to reflect your brand, not a theme

Less of a fit if

  • you need a simple site quickly, for a fixed monthly fee.See the website subscription
  • your content and goals are still unclear. We'd start with a short discovery phase.

What's included

Every site is different, but this is the foundation of every project.

  • Discovery and goals

We look at audiences, goals and where you are today, and define how success is measured.

  • Content structure

Site structure, page types and user journeys, so people find what they came for.

  • Web design

A look built on your brand, designed mobile first and tested with you before we build.

  • Development

Clean, fast code, whether the site is custom-built or based on WordPress.

  • Accessibility and speed

We target WCAG 2.2 AA, the international accessibility standard, and measure performance before the site goes live.

  • Technical SEO

Metadata, structured data (schema.org), an XML sitemap and redirects from old URLs.

How we build your site

Five phases, each with a deliverable you sign off before the next begins.

  1. Discovery and goals

Conversations, a workshop and a review of your current site and data. Deliverable: goals, a plan and a written proposal.

  2. Design

Site structure, prototypes and visual design. You click through the design before we write code.

  3. Build

We develop, add content and connect systems. You test on a staging site as we go.

  4. Launch

Redirects, analytics and Search Console set up. The site goes live on your domain.

  5. Care and improvement

After launch we review the first numbers together and prioritise improvements.

Technology we use

We choose the technology to fit the project, not the other way round.

  • WordPress
  • Next.js

Web design questions

How much does a bespoke website cost?

The price depends on the number of distinct page types, how much content needs writing or migrating, which systems need connecting and whether the site is in more than one language. After a first conversation you get a written proposal that spells out what is and isn't included. If the budget doesn't match the scope, we say so straight away and suggest phases.

How long does it take to build a website?

It depends on scope and on how quickly content, images and decisions are ready, which is usually what slows projects down most. The proposal includes a phased timeline with dates, so you know when you'll see the design and when the site goes live. A bespoke website often takes 6–12 weeks, depending on scope.

What's the difference between a bespoke site and a WordPress theme?

A theme is designed for everyone and often carries a lot of extra code that slows the site down. A bespoke site is designed around your content and goals and contains only what it needs. We use WordPress when it fits, for stores or content-heavy sites for example, but we build the theme ourselves rather than buying one.

Can we edit the content ourselves?

Yes. We set up a content management system that suits your team, WordPress or another, and show you how to use it. The aim is that everyday changes to text, images and news don't need a developer.

Who owns the website and the code?

Rights to the design and code are set out in writing in the contract before work starts, including the licence you get to use, change and develop the code further. We recommend that the domain is registered in your name, and your content is always yours.

What happens after launch?

Hosting can be with Gagnaver, which is run by the same company as us, or wherever you prefer. We offer maintenance, updates and ongoing improvements, but you decide whether and how much. A maintenance contract is not a condition of handover.

Hosting and care

Once the site is ready it can be hosted by Gagnaver, which is run by the same company as Íslandsvefir. Backups, updates and monitoring are then in one place.
