Terms
Terms for web projects, in plain language
These are the general terms for the projects we do for you. The proposal for each project says what is included; this page says how the rest of the collaboration works.
In short
- Every project is based on a written proposal
- Changes to scope are agreed in writing first
- You accept the work before it goes live
- Hosting follows Gagnaver’s terms, not these

These terms apply to the projects Íslandsvefir does for clients: designing and building websites and online stores, integrations and custom development, SEO and digital marketing. They describe how we work together, who is responsible for what and what happens if something goes wrong.
The parties
The seller is Gagnaver Datacenter AB, registered in Sweden, which runs Íslandsvefir. The client is you, usually on behalf of a company or organisation. If you are a consumer — an individual buying for personal use — the law may give you further rights, and these terms do not limit them.
Proposal and agreement
Every project is based on a written proposal or statement of work that says what is included, what it costs and how the work is split into phases. A proposal is valid for 30 days from the day it is sent. The agreement is made when you accept the proposal in writing within that time, for example by email.
If the proposal and these terms disagree, the proposal applies.
Prices and payment
Prices are in Icelandic krónur and are quoted excluding VAT. Because the seller is registered in Sweden, invoices to businesses in Iceland are issued under the reverse charge: the buyer accounts for the VAT in Iceland.
Invoices are due 14 days from the invoice date. Bespoke projects are invoiced in three parts:
- 30% when the work starts,
- 40% when you approve the design,
- 30% when the site goes live.
For subscriptions, the setup fee is invoiced at the start and the monthly fee is invoiced monthly in advance.
If an invoice is not paid by the due date, late-payment interest is charged as the applicable law provides.
Changes to scope
It is normal for ideas to change during a project. For changes outside the proposal we assess the effect on cost and time, tell you, and only do the work once you have agreed in writing.
What you contribute
A project goes best when both sides deliver. You take care of:
- providing the agreed content, images and information on time,
- giving access to the systems, domain and services the work needs,
- giving feedback and making decisions within a reasonable time,
- holding the rights to use the material you give us, such as images, copy and trademarks.
If content or feedback is delayed, the timeline may move by the same amount.
Delivery and acceptance
We deliver the work on a staging site before it goes live. You review it and tell us about bugs or departures from the proposal, and we fix them. The work counts as accepted when you approve the launch, or when the site has been put into use.
For 30 days after the site goes live, we fix free of charge anything that does not work as agreed. New wishes and changes count as new work, and we quote for them separately.
Intellectual property
Bespoke projects. Once the project has been paid in full, you receive full rights to the design and to the code we write specifically for you. Íslandsvefir keep the right to reuse general components, tools and know-how that are not specific to your project.
Subscription websites. The design, the theme and the platform the site runs on remain the property of Íslandsvefir for as long as the subscription lasts.
Your content is always yours. The texts, images and data you provide always belong to you, whether the site is bespoke or on a subscription. We also recommend that the domain is registered to you.
Open-source software, fonts, plugins and other third-party work the site relies on remain under their own licences.
Portfolio. Íslandsvefir may show completed projects in our portfolio and in marketing: your name or your company’s, screenshots and a description of the project, unless otherwise agreed in writing. We never publish confidential information.
Hosting, operations and service levels
These terms cover project work, not hosting. Íslandsvefir promises no uptime or operational response times under these terms.
If the site is hosted by Gagnaver — the same company’s hosting service — Gagnaver’s terms and service levels apply to the hosting, as published on gagnaver.is. Ongoing maintenance or improvement work is agreed in a separate proposal.
Confidentiality
We treat information about your business, passwords and data as confidential and use them only for the project. Personal data we handle on your site is covered by our privacy policy and a data processing agreement.
Liability and its limits
We are liable for loss we cause by not keeping to the agreement, as the law provides. We are not liable for indirect loss, such as lost profit, nor for content you provide, changes others make to the site, or third-party services the site connects to.
Our liability is limited to the amount paid for the project or the phase concerned. This limit does not apply to loss caused intentionally or through gross negligence, nor where mandatory law prevents it.
Ending a project
Either party can end the project with 30 days’ written notice. You pay for the work done up to the end of the notice period, and we hand over what is ready.
Governing law and courts
Swedish law governs the agreement, as the seller is registered and operates in Sweden.
Disputes that cannot be settled by agreement go to the Swedish courts, with Göteborgs tingsrätt (the district court in Gothenburg, where the company has its seat) as the first instance.
If you are a consumer, you keep the protection that the mandatory consumer law of your home country gives you.
