Accessibility
This website should work for everyone
We aim for WCAG 2.2 AA, the international benchmark for web accessibility. Here we say honestly where things stand, how we test and what you can do if something gets in your way.
In short
- Target: WCAG 2.2 AA
- Automated accessibility tests on every page
- No independent audit has been done yet
- You can always call or write and get help

This is the accessibility statement for islandsvefir.is. It says what we aim for, how we test, what we know is missing and how to tell us about a problem.
What we aim for
We aim for the site to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. These are the international guidelines for making websites usable by people who use screen readers, a keyboard only or magnification, who have trouble telling colours apart, or who find fine movements difficult.
We build websites for others and say that accessibility is part of the build, not an extra. This site is where we prove it.
How we test
- Automated accessibility tests (axe-core) run on every page of the site, at phone and desktop sizes, while it is developed.
- The contrast of every colour in the design system is tested automatically: text reaches at least 4.5:1 and control outlines at least 3:1.
- We check that menus, filters and the project form work without JavaScript.
- We go through the pages ourselves with a keyboard.
Automated tests do not catch everything, though. No independent audit has been done yet; we are working on getting one. Until then we do not say the site meets WCAG 2.2 AA — we say we are aiming for it.
What the site does
- Headings and landmarks are marked up, so screen readers can move around the pages.
- The whole site works with a keyboard alone, and you can always see where the focus is.
- A link at the top of every page jumps straight to the main content.
- Form fields have visible labels, and error messages appear next to the field concerned and are linked to it.
- Each page’s language is marked, so screen readers pronounce the text correctly.
- Motion is minimal and switches off if you have asked your operating system for reduced motion.
- Colour is never the only way to understand what is going on.
What is missing
- The project form opens your email app to send the message. If you do not use an email app, you can write to our email address or call us directly.
- The site has not been fully tested with screen readers on every operating system.
- When you filter projects or articles, the result count on screen updates, but not every screen reader may announce the new number.
- Screenshots of websites in our portfolio are images. They come with a text description, but it cannot describe everything you see.
If any of this gets in your way, contact us. We will help you directly while we fix the site.
If something does not work for you
Tell us. It helps to say which page it is, what you were trying to do and what happened — and which browser or assistive technology you use, if you know.
A person on our team reads every message and replies. We will tell you what we can fix and when, and if the fix takes time, we will find another way for you in the meantime.
